You may be thinking that P’COLA’s Newest Playground Park’s has been open for a day or maybe even a month… and it’s a bit late to celebrate … but PC’OLA officials will be on site today to honor both the accomplishment and those that helped make it happen! Jennings Gonzalez Park is located at 1552 Goldenrod Rd. Ribbon cutting will be at 2pm so if you happen to be there, give a big hand! 👏

FLORIDA REAL ESTATE TAXES 💸

It’s all anyone’s been talkin’ about all over Florida: Governor DeSantis has proposed to eliminate real estate property taxes for FL homeowners. He's asking legislators to redirect $5 billion in proposed sales tax cuts to property tax relief instead. DeSantis wants a constitutional amendment on the November 2026 ballot that could get rid of property taxes entirely. We put together a few interesting facts below for you to ponder:

 NOW YOU KNOW ✅:

• A whopping $42.7 BILLION is collected in Florida in property taxes annually.

• The average tax rate is 0.79 percent of the assessed value of your home, but property taxes vary widely across the state.

• The median Florida homeowners' tax bill spiked 47.5% between 2019 and 2024, the property data firm CoreLogic found. However, US median property taxes rose only 23.6% increase.  

• In Florida you may elect to HOMESTEAD your property . This reduces the taxable value of your main home by up to $50,000. This exemption is available to all homeowners, as long as the property is your primary residence.

• People who are 65 years old or older get an extra $50,000 exemption. This is on top of the regular exemption.

• Any immediate property tax relief would require support from the Florida Legislature.

• The elimination of FL property tax requires an amendment to the Florida Constitution.

• And, a constitutional amendment requires the support of 60% of Floridians to pass.
