Good morning, Pensacola.

The HIGHLIGHT of the weekend is happeninโ€™ tonight at 7:00pm - the annual FIESTA PARADE! This is an event to remember! Itโ€™s an opportunity to catch beads, applaud our talented local high school marching bands, and marvel at the creative floats (Note to self: Today is National Creative Day!) as they parade through our city streets on display. You might even catch a glimpse of both DeLuna and his Queen along with their court!

Thereโ€™s more in store for the weekend! Check out the Weekend ๐Ÿ“† Line Up and the Gulf Coast Culture Festival at Seville Square May 31st. It promises โ€œ a day filled with art, music, dance, food, and visual delightsโ€. At 8pm the โ€œFilms for the Cultureโ€ Film Fest begins. This is a local film festival screening sponsored by Gulf Coast Short Film Fest.

IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOL SAFETY ๐ŸšŒ

Every parent wants and needs to know their childโ€™s school has clear protocols for lockdowns, evacuations, and crisis communication. In response to these concerns, a School Safety Legislation ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Senate Bill 1470 was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis this month.

The bill expands the School Guardian Program, clarifying perimeter and door security requirements, modifying training and oversight for school security guards, and refines procedures for threat assessment and emergency response.

Governor DeSantis, local school districts, and law enforcement continue to determine new steps to take to keep our schools safe.

NEW EMERGENCY CARE FOR ANAPHYLAXIS DURING SCHOOL and/or SCHOOL EVENTS ๐Ÿ’‰

For the parents of an anaphylactic child, sending their child to school requires a leap of faith. They must trust the teachers, the school nurse, the administrators, and even other children. This trust is often accompanied by a persistent fear; one missed detail could lead to a life-threatening reaction.

In response to these concerns, Senate Bill 1514 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Anaphylaxis in Public and Charter Schools was signed into law late Tuesday, after unanimously passing both the Florida House and Senate.

The new law takes effect July 1, 2025. The change requires โ€œAll Florida K-8 public schools to be prepared to administer emergency epinephrine to students experiencing anaphylaxis during the school day or during school-sponsored activities happening before and after school hours. It provides training for school personnel in identifying and responding to allergic reactions and in the administration of emergency epinephrine".โ€

The signing of SENATE BILL 1514 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ represents a tremendous victory celebrated by local moms and advocacy groups who advocated for the protocol for years!
