Birdwatching along the Gulf … like attending a free comedy show where the performers have wings and loud voices. The Laughing Gull, for instance, its call sounds like a seagull who just heard the a funny joke. And the Pelican, legend has it, a poet once wrote, "His bill will hold more than his belican," who knows what a belican is? Meanwhile, egrets and spoonbills can be seen deep in conversation, probably discussing the latest fishing gossip or debating the best beach spots. So, if you're ever in the mood for some feathered stand-up comedy, grab your binoculars and head to the Gulf.

Interested in becoming more than a backyard birder? Consider joining your local P’Cola Francis M. Audubon. FMWAS is a chapter of the National Audubon Society and Audubon Florida, serving Escambia and Santa Rosa counties of Florida. Every member is a volunteer with a collective purpose to promote the understanding and preservation of wildlife and the environment that supports it. Programs are offered from beginner to advanced birdwatchers. Below is the spring calendar of events.
