If you haven’t been on the water this season, now is the time to schedule a trip. Double red flags are flying so maybe you’d like to plan out a fishing excursion for later this week using the TAKE ME FISHNG MAP. The Palafox Summer Shop-A-Palooza will be on June 12th, 5-8pm - add it to the calendar and see you there!

NATIONAL FISHING & BOATING WEEK 🎣 🛥️

ANNUAL EVENT 🗓️: June 1-8th

Here we are, the first week of June 2025 in P’COLA, school’s out for summer and our local lifestyle has slowed to a summer pace. We can so enjoy our coastal lifestyle; swimming in the Gulf, fishing rodeo’s, bands on the beach, Palafox Farmers Market and endless waters sports. You wouldn’t think there would be a need to promote National Fishing and Boating Week in P’COLA. Yet, there’s so much more to know about fishing than simply dropping a baited hook and line. Let’s get to it!

NOW YOU KNOW ✅ National Fishing and Boating Week began in 1979 as National Fishing Week. The main goal was simple: get more people hooked on fishing. In 2002, President George W. Bush declared it a national holiday recognizing fishing and boating as pastimes and as important parts of our American culture and (P’COLA) lifestyle.

NOW YOU KNOW ✅ The Take Me Fishing campaign, started by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF), aims to bring seasoned anglers together with beginners - to share the fun and develop simple skills of fishing and boating.

NOW YOU KNOW ✅ National Fishing and Boating Week also supports the conservation of our nation’s waterways. Funds from fishing licenses and tackle purchases contribute to the Sport Fish Restoration Program, which is crucial for restoring the declining fish populations and managing our aquatic resources effectively. Since the Act was passed, it has generated over $12 billion for the conservation and restoration of sport fish species and their habitats. Amazing!

Take Me Fishing has a MAP - one of the best resources - for boat ramp access in and around the P’COLA. If you click on FISH SPECIES (bottom left box) it shows all the types of fish caught in our local waters - an amazing collection! Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and you will find a link to what type of bait was used to catch each type of fish!
