FLORIDA WASTE REDUCTION & RECYCLING PLAN ♻️

Florida House Bill 295 Summary: In short, HB 295 bill requires the DEP to develop comprehensive waster reductions and recycling plan, create and convene technical assistance group and submit report to Legislature.

KNOW YOU KNOW ✅: In long, HB 295 mandates the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to develop a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling plan for Florida by July 1, 2026. The plan is to be based on recommendations from the department's "Florida and the 2020 75% Recycling Goal, Final Report." To assist in the development of this plan, the DEP is required to create and convene a technical assistance group. The comprehensive plan must include:

1. specific recycling goals,

2. a 3-year implementation strategy focusing on recycling education

3. local government assistance

4. market development for recyclable materials.

Upon completion of the plan, the DEP will submit the report to the Legislature, specifically to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The report must include recommendations for any statutory changes needed to achieve the identified recycling goals and strategies.
