Purple Flags are were flying over the weekend at Pensacola Beach. Purple indicates the presence of dangerous marine life, such as jellyfish or Portuguese man-o-war. Swimming is still permitted but beachgoers are advised to exercise caution.

If stung by a Portuguese Man o' War, immediate first aid involves rinsing the area with vinegar, then soaking the affected area in hot water (45°C or 113°F) for 45 minutes. Do not use fresh water, as it can release more venom. You might remove any remaining tentacles with a stick or gloves, and avoiding rubbing the area. If symptoms are severe or worsen, seek medical attention. 

Today is WORLD SEA TURTLE DAY building awareness for the safety and survival of sea turtles. Check out this site where you can help the sea turtle. The Sea Turtle Grants Program is funded from proceeds from the sale of the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate.

They will share their knowledge of fishing the Gulf’ and the favorite local fish that inspire their dishes.
