Today is National Oyster Day with an evening celebration with Red Fish Blue Fish and the Oyster Alliance including live music, family-friendly educational activities, a vertical oyster garden building workshop, a screening of the short-film The Humble Oyster, and feature a Red Fish Blue Fish oyster special!

Local chatter: Did you know about Barking Beaches? Pensacola Beach features sugar-white sand made of quartz particles that emit a distinct squeaking or "barking" sound when walked upon. 

National chatter: A 7.3-foot hoodwinker sunfish, clearly lost and confused, flopped ashore on Gearhart Beach, Oregon. Usually, this fish hangs out in the Southern Hemisphere. Naturally, it became the beach's main attraction, drawing in crowds.

Just Another Day in Paradise a.k.a FLORIDA: Florida's nickname, the "Sunshine State," is well-earned, but it also comes with the occasional hurricane, alligator crossing, and other uniquely Floridian events that keep things interesting.
