Discover ☀️ P’COLA is the newsletter that’s as fun to read as a day at the beach during OFF SEASON: relaxing and enjoyable; living out our best life!

Summer is well under way and outdoor activities are in full motion. Camping is one activity in NWFL that has many seasons. The summer season is for people who willingly trade comfortable beds for inflatable mattresses, trade climate controlled bedrooms for nylon tents and enjoy sharing space with mosquitos! We’d like to share a few favorite camp spaces in NWFL worthy of exploration even if you do catch a few bug bites or end up on the ground from a leaky air mattress. This is DISCOVER 🏕️ P’COLA!  Let’s get to it!

CAMPING NWFL

Traditional RV Camping typically takes place in designated campgrounds in NWFL with amenities like water, electric and sewage hook up or bathroom access. However, if you’re looking for a great outdoor experience, Boondocking, (AKA dry camping), is the act of camping without all the modern amenities we so often take for granted. (Not to be confused with Wallydocking or Walmart parking lot camping in your RV).

In NWFL,  Boondocking is most often on public land managed by the National Forest Service. In addition to breathtaking scenery, it often allows you to camp closer to hiking trails, kayaking spots, and other outdoor opportunities. You have the ability to choose your own campsite, often in remote and less-crowded areas, providing unparalleled peace and quiet.

BEACH CAMPING is often referred to as BACKCOUNTRY or BOAT-IN Camping. Boat-in camping specifically refers to camping accessible only by boat, while backcountry camping can be reached by various means like hiking, backpacking, or paddling, but not by car. Back country camping at the Gulf Islands National Seashore is only allowed for boat-in campers on the shoreline of Perdido Key.

National Forest Campgrounds. Portions of the Apalachicola, Ocala, and Osceola National Forests, these are not located in or near Escambia County but worthy of exploring in NWFL.

Florida State Parks require campers to stay in designated campsites, not dispersed areas. Reservations required.

HIPCAMP also offers cool sites that may be less formal and get it (the great outdoors) done.
