Pensacola Beach Brawl . Summer Camp . Jr Lifeguarding

`

Pensacola’s #1 Newsletter

If you're itching for some adventure, we're here to help you stumble upon the finest local festivities, those tucked-away treasures, and every bit of excitement stirring in our community. It’s the perfect way to truly get to know the heart of our home, Pensacola.

QUICK. FREE. INFORMATIVE.

Morning P’Cola!

This is the week of the Pensacola Beach Brawl, a high-energy, bi-annual fitness competition that turns our beautiful beach into a world-class outdoor gym. Athletes from all over the country will test their strength & grit in the beach sand. You’ll see three different divisions; the seasoned 'Rx', the 'Masters' athletes and the 'Scaled' teams.

It’s a good time to amble along the beach, browse the vendors, and cheer on these folks as they give it their all under the Florida sun.

See ya out there.

COMMUNITY & COUNTY NEWS

  • New Voting Rules (The Florida SAVE Act): Governor DeSantis plans to sign HB 991 requiring proof of citizenship for new and renewing voters. No more using student IDs at the polls. It’s already sparked some talk of legal challenges, so that’s one to watch.

  • School Safety & Firearms: A new package is heading to the Governor’s desk that would make firing a gun near a school a felony and expands the 'guardian program' to allow trained staff to carry firearms on college campuses.

  • Pensacola Beach Junior Lifeguard summer camp opens in April 2026. Take note! This little program is so popular, it fills up faster than the parking lot at Peg Leg Pete's on a holiday weekend!

  • Beach Season has Begun! NOTE TO SELF: Full-time lifeguard staffing doesn’t begin until Memorial Day weekend. However, you may start seeing lifeguards at key locations like Quietwater Beach and Gulf Islands National Seashore (Opal Beach and Langdon Beach) part-time on the weekends starting mid-April.

Be sure to keep an eye on the flag conditions at the beach entrances.

MARCH FORECAST

Expect warm afternoons, climbing from the low 70s right on up into the low 80s by this coming weekend, perfect for a downtown stroll or a bit of sun-soaking on the island. Evenings will still have a gentle, cool touch—dropping into the 50s and low 60s—keep a sweater handy for those sunset walks.

We’ve got a whole lot of sunshine on the horizon, though don't be surprised if a stray spring shower wanders through early next week to keep the spring grass green.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG)

Providing grant funding for low-income seniors. The CDBG Grants pay for what they refer to as “critical code-related repairs”. Think safety, health, and accessibility for owner occupied single family homes.

It’s truly heart-warming to see how funds are being sprinkled across our county like wildflower seeds, helping everything grow just a little bit better. If you’re curious about where that money has been landing lately, here are a few wonderful examples of how it’s been put to work:

  • Housing Rehabilitation: This is a big one. The county has used these funds to help our neighbors with single-family home repairs and reconstruction, making sure folks have a safe and sturdy roof over their heads.

  • Better Bus Stops: They’ve been working on a project to update 32 existing bus shelters and add 80 brand-new ones across the ECAT system. Making sure our neighbors can wait for their ride in the shade and out of the spring showers.

LOW-INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP)

If the cost of keeping your home cool this summer is weighing heavy on your heart, the LIHEAP program is lending a helping hand with energy bills. Eligible households may seek financial assistance with heating and cooling costs, emergency utility disconnection and repair/replacement of HVAC SYSTEMS may apply. It's a true blessing for our neighbors who need a little extra grace to stay comfortable through the shifting Florida seasons.

You can reach out to the Escambia County Neighborhood Human Services office at 850-595-3029 or visit MyEscambia.com/LIHEAP to see about getting an application started.
