Good morning, Pensacola!
Brace yourself! An August week in the 80’s ☀️ in P’COLA is nothing short of an amazing event! It’s also the final week of summer for our school kids; classes start the 11th! Here’s the calendar to reference Escambia County EDU dates.
Local chatter: Pensacola Police are increasing patrols to crack down on loud music and cars in the downtown area keeping noise pollution under control.
National chatter: The SHARKED ACT passed a vote in the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation last week aiming to address shark depredation (sharks taking hooked fish). Sharks partially or completely removing hooked fish from fishing lines, is a growing problem in the Gulf of Mexico, affecting both recreational and commercial fishermen.
Just Another Day in Paradise a.k.a FLORIDA: They call them “Hero’s with No Shell”, AKA Flagler Firefighters who recently rescued baby turtle hatchlings from a storm drain.

THE SHARKED ACT 🦈
The SHARKED ACT (Supporting the Health of Aquatic Systems through Research, Knowledge, and Enhanced Dialogue Act), aiming to address shark depredation (sharks taking hooked fish), passed a vote in the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation on July 30, 2025. The bill had previously passed the U.S. House of Representatives in January. It now moves on to the full Senate for consideration.
If passed, the SHARKED Act would create a task force to study shark behavior, enhance collaboration among those involved in fisheries management and research, and develop approaches to deal with shark depredation.
The sportfishing community supports the bill.
Wildlife advocacy organizations have concerns for potential shark culling or population reduction as a remedy.

PENSACOLA PUPS FOR ADOPTION 🐾
With news of The SHARKED Act, we thought we’d mix it up and search for pups with Sea Shore names; Fin, Shark, Jellyfish, Surf, Sand Crab, Pelican, Bluefish, Sandy, Salty, Grouper, Tuna, Oyster, Barnacle…. no such luck. But we did find CORAL, REEF, and SALTWATER.
NOTE TO SELF: don’t name the pup “Shark” if you live at the beach……”Shark! Shark! …Whistle…, Shark!”
Please say hello to our Sea Shore Trio:
CORAL located at PAWS in FWB. A cheerful 3 yr old girl, always in a good mood and loves people!
SALTWATER located at PAWS (c/o Foster home) Sweet and gentle girl with a tender heart with one blue eye!
REEF located at The Mylo Foundation in Milton. Reef likes to play with the ball, he’s dog friendly and kid friendly - the sweetest boy with a cute little personality.
If you have a home and the heart 💙 to adopt, maybe you can give CORAL, SALTWATER or REEF🐾 the love and care they deserve. Looking for a smaller, fatter, older, taller, furrier, pup?
