PELICAN PASSPORT🛂

Ever wonder about the WHY behind the PAINTED PELICANS in P’COLA? Over 15 years ago, the Pensacola News Journal organized a fundraiser by creating big, beautiful, fiberglass Pelican statues. Each Pelican was sponsored by a local business or entity. The sponsors had the privilege of selecting an artist to decorate their Pelican by theme. The finished Pelicans are on display, positioned in public spaces and local businesses and scattered throughout our region.

NOW YOU KNOW ✅: The proceeds earned through Pelican sponsorship were used to place newspapers in classrooms to improve early literacy 📖.

Most of the Pelican’s are still standing proud and offer a great cultural opportunity to explore by artist, by area and by business sponsor. The PELICAN PASSPORT is a creatively different way to explore P’COLA. The program offers a digital experience allowing you to track your Penguin Discoveries, one at a time. There are 10 Pelicans within walking distance in downtown P’COLA. The rest will require transportation.

PANHANDLE BEACHES THAT ALLOW ALCOHOL 🍺

Looks like only two beaches along the Panhandle allow for alcohol consumption. Pensacola Beach is the only Panhandle Beach allowing alcohol during the month of MARCH.

Panama City Beach: Alcoholic beverages are permitted year-round, except for March.

Pensacola Beach: Alcoholic beverages are permitted on the beach, omitting an alcohol-free zone located on a “... portion of the beach on the Gulf of Mexico on Pensacola Beach extending 320 feet west of the existing Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier and 225 feet north of the shoreline to the sand fencing, encompassing an area approximately 1.75 acres” (Escambia County, Code of Ordinance, Chapter 6, Sec. 6-3. - Alcohol-free zone).
