A second Wawa store in Pensacola is scheduled to open on Thursday, April 17th, at 5888 W. Nine Mile Road. The grand opening ceremony will begin at 7:45 a.m. with doors opening at 8 a.m. 

PENSACOLA JOB GROWTH

Following yesterdays words on area growth and development, it might be insightful to also take a look at local job growth.

In the Pensacola metro area, which includes Escambia County, private sector employment increased by 3,000 jobs (+1.7%) over the year, as of September 2024. 

• The education and health services sector saw the most job gains, adding 900 jobs.

• The leisure and hospitality industry also added 1,000 jobs in the same period. 

• In the Pensacola metro area, private sector employment increased by 1,800 jobs (1.1%) over the year, reported in February 2025.

Unemployment Rate

• The Pensacola area's unemployment rate was 3.5% in September 2024. The unemployment rate in Escambia County is currently 4.10%.

• The county’s long-term unemployment rate is 5.26%, which is higher than the current average rate.

• Florida overall is experiencing positive momentum with total private employment increasing by 7200 jobs over the month of February 2025 alone!
